How to Play Bluetooth on a Car Stereo

07.12

More and more cars with Bluetooth connectivity are entering the market, allowing drivers to connect cell phones, headsets and portable media players to their car stereos. Many of these Bluetooth-enabled car stereos have voice control, allowing you to navigate your music selection and make hands-free calls by simply telling the car what to do. But all Bluetooth devices need to be "paired" with another device before they'll work together.

Instructions
1. Place your Bluetooth device in "discovery" mode. Every device does this differently, but for cell phones and PDAs, the option is most likely under its "Bluetooth" control panel, in the "Connections" or "Connectivity" section of its menu.

2. Set your car up to search for Bluetooth devices. Again, this process is different with different vehicles, but there should be a Bluetooth option menu accessible through the main stereo panel.

3. Select your Bluetooth device from the list of devices discovered by the car. Enter the device's security pass key when prompted. Headsets and other simple devices use "0000" by default, though a smartphone or PDA may generate a longer sequence you'll have to input into the car's stereo.

4. Set your car's stereo to "Bluetooth," or a similar input setting. You should be able to change the input to Bluetooth the same way you change between FM, AM and CD playback.

5. Select the music or other audio you wish to hear. You should be able to browse your Bluetooth device's audio selection using your car's navigation tools.
